HUM Expands into NEMT

Here’s What That Means for Drivers Ready to Earn

There’s a lot of noise out there about Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT). Some drivers love it. Some bash it. But let’s cut through the chatter and focus on the facts — and the opportunity now available through HUM.

Not All NEMT Is Created Equal

First, let’s get something straight: NEMT is a big umbrella. There’s Medicaid, Medicare, the VA, commercial health plans, and even private pay. Each pays differently. Some reimburse generously. Others, like Medicaid, are standardized and tightly regulated. That’s just the nature of the healthcare system.

So, when you hear about $150 trips for someone going to a routine appointment? That might not be Medicaid. That’s concierge-style, private-pay NEMT, a totally different ballgame.

HUM’s NEMT Expansion: 30,000 Trips and Counting

HUM didn’t create these rides; they already existed. These trips were happening every day across Arizona through various platforms, including Uber, taxis, and others. What we did was step in and bring thousands of those trips under the HUM umbrella ("HUMbrella", if you will).

Here’s what that means:

More trips. More consistency. And better pay.

We’re now dispatching tens of thousands of AHCCCS-based NEMT rides statewide — and paying more per mile than what many drivers previously received.

The HUM Advantage

We’ve improved the unit economics on these trips, with a refreshingly simple payout structure:

  • $4 base per trip
  • $0.80 per mile
  • No surge zones, no games. Just consistent earnings.

Many of our NEMT drivers average 10 trips per day, with an average fare around $20 per trip. That’s $200 a day, reliably, not hypothetically.

Is NEMT for You?

It’s not for everyone, and that’s fine. But it is a great fit for:

  • Drivers looking for consistent work with no marketing or self-promotion required
  • Bilingual speakers (English, Spanish, Arabic — all welcome!)
  • Drivers who enjoy bettering their community
  • People who don’t want to build their own client base
  • Anyone ready to earn a steady, daily income with trip volume available immediately

We’re currently onboarding 100–150 drivers to support this expansion. Training is quick. Assessment is straightforward. You could be on the road earning a living the day after you complete it.

Let’s Be Real: This Is Progress

This isn't about reinventing the wheel. It’s about raising the floor — improving what already exists and making sure drivers are treated like professionals. Our mission at HUM has always been to put drivers first. This NEMT expansion is one more step toward that goal.

If you’re ready for consistent, no-nonsense work, we’re ready for you.
